[Update] New Cloud Autoscaling API will be enabled for your GKE-enabled projects

Cloud Autoscaling API will become a required dependency starting April 2023.

MY CONSOLE

Hello Tee,

We are constantly working to raise the bar for you and are planning to boost the industry leading scalability and speed of auto scaling features even further. As part of this goal, we will enable the new Cloud Autoscaling API for all projects with the Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) API starting in April 2023. At a later date, Cloud Autoscaling API will become a required dependency for collecting metrics from GKE nodes for the purpose of using enhanced GKE autoscaling capabilities.

What do you need to know?

Cloud Autoscaling API enabled will not cause any changes in the configuration settings or behavior of a GKE cluster. This includes any autoscaling configuration, and any Horizontal Pod Autoscaling (HPA) or Vertical Pod Autoscaling (VPA) objects running in a GKE cluster.

Note: Later this year GKE will provide an option to use the Cloud Autoscaling API to enable improved scalability of Horizontal and Vertical Pod Autoscaling features.

What do you need to do?

No action is required on your part.

If you are using or plan to use GKE autoscaling features (HPA, VPA), ensure that any tooling, which automates the creation or management of GCP projects or their APIs (e.g., Terraform), is configured such that it does not disable the Cloud Autoscaling API.

Your project(s) listed below will have the Cloud Autoscaling API enabled, starting April, 2023 if not disabled:

Thanks for choosing Google Kubernetes Engine.
